• Complete Brain Cancer Program Vision

At the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, we are uniting teams of experts from related, yet diverse, disciplines to infuse new knowledge and perspectives into cancer care and move our basic, clinical, and translational science efforts forward. The interdisciplinary approach embodied by our Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute holds promise for something greater than the sum of individual faculty efforts. Our teams of faculty clinicians and scientists are focused on identifying and treating brain cancers early, determining factors that contribute to their development, researching new therapies and investigational drugs, and developing effective new cancer treatments.

We are catalyzing the talent and resources of our great academic medical center to develop and elevate our Brain Tumor Institute. A primary mission for the Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute is to help build and coordinate a comprehensive multi-departmental, interdisciplinary program focused on brain tumor research and clinical care.

Numerous departments here—including neuro-surgery, neurology, radiology, radiation oncology, pathology, and medicine —have developed large and comprehensive programs in neurooncology research, education, and clinical care. Through the Brain Tumor Institute, these efforts have the opportunity to unify and evolve into a world-class, elite program that sets national standards for patient care and research. Members of the Institute will have appointments in their own departments and also will be members of the Lurie Cancer Center. The Lurie Cancer Center will be the umbrella organization, while funding and support for the Institute will come from both the Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

It is our mission to:

• Endeavor to find a cure for brain and spinal tumors.
• Train neurooncology researchers and clinicians to meet the highest standards.
• Provide state-of-the-art clinical care to patients with brain tumors.
• Provide resources and support necessary for patients and their families to meet the challenges of living with a brain tumor.

To fully achieve our goals as a leading brain cancer program, we are seeking private support for faculty recruitment and retention, educational and research initiatives, and community outreach—priority areas where funds will have the most impact.
