Program Profiles and Visions > GI Cancer Program Vision
At the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, we are uniting teams of experts from related, yet diverse, disciplines to infuse new knowledge and perspectives into cancer care and move our basic, clinical, and translational science efforts forward. The interdisciplinary approach embodied by our GI Cancer Program holds promise for something greater than the sum of individual faculty efforts. Our teams of faculty clinicians and scientists are focused on identifying and treating GI cancers early, determining factors that contribute to their development, researching new therapies and investigational drugs, and developing effective new cancer treatments. We are catalyzing the talent and resources of our great academic medical center to elevate and further strengthen our GI Cancer Clinical Care and Research Program. Through this interdisciplinary program, we are building on Northwestern's nationally recognized expertise in treating and studying cancers of the colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and esophagus. With established distinctions in GI cancer, we have an opportunity to position Northwestern as the Chicago area's leading GI Cancer Program and as one of the nation's premier academic centers for GI cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, training, and outreach. In pursuing this vision, we are engaging our clinical affiliate partners and reaching across our Chicago and Evanston campuses to facilitate care and research collaborations. To fully achieve our goals as a leading GI cancer center, we are seeking private support for faculty recruitment and retention, research initiatives, equipment, and clinical research nurse support—priority areas where funds will have the most impact.
