Program Overview
The Master of Biotechnology Program (MBP) was established in 2003; it is administered by the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. The MBP is distinguished from other Masters of Biotechnology programs by the integration of biology and engineering, combined with extensive hands-on research in Northwestern University faculty laboratories on both the main and medical school campus.

Highlights

  • Focused and integrated training for engineers, chemists, and biologists.
  • 15 months (five quarters) of study.
  • Four quarters of research guided by a Northwestern faculty member.
  • Core education in bioprocess engineering theory and laboratory practice.
  • Seminars on the legal, regulatory, business, and ethical aspects of biotechnology - many presented by industry professionals and members of the Lurie Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
  • Instruction in oral, written and interpersonal communication.
  • Placement assistance provided by a full-time industrial liaison.
